As discussed in our general assembly we renewed the contract with the Gemeinschaftszentrum Bachwiesen until the end of September. However, as we only can use the venue under the given restrictions, the GZ offered a discount on the rental fee!
I am really happy anyway that we still can offer chess for kids over the board in the GZ – many thanks to Roger for all the efforts!

It is still uncertain if the SMM can be played this year at all. Until now it is not possible to register a team. You can follow the latest news on the homepage of the Swiss chess federation:

Unfortunately, as not enough players registered for the Zurich Championship 2021 it had to be cancelled:
However, the Zurich Championships for kids is still scheduled for April 14th and 21st! Please ask Roger, Kurt or myself for details.

At least there is some chess and we continue to play in the Swiss Team Battle – on April 20th in league 4 with a time control of 5+3:

From the last newsletter we more than doubled the number of bons in the project “Support your Sport”:
Until April 12th you still can collect bons and assign it until April 19th to our club. In the meantime Migros doubled the amount of money to be distributed to all clubs! Many thanks to all of you for supporting us.

Easter newsletter

The Zurich Chess Championship will be played this year online on lichess.org.

Viktor Kortschnoi was one of the most illustrious personalities in chess history. He emigrated in 1978 from the sowjet union to Switzerland where he passed away nearly five years ago in Wohlen (AG) at the age of 85. The BBC issued a radio documentary about the exciting world championship 1978 against Analtoly Karpov – you can find it in English language here:

Next round of the Swiss Team Battle will be played April 6th with a time control of 5+3:

And we almost reached 200 tokens in the project “Support your Sport”! If you like you can until April 12th still collect “Vereinsbons” and assign to our club – many thanks:

Have a joyful Easter … stay healthy and see you soon again!

News about chess at Letzi

However, apart from minor things we are finally back online!

In the Swiss Team Battle we still fight in league 4. Next tournament will be on the upcoming Tuesday March 9th with a time control of 5+3: https://lichess.org/tournament/NcOSJalD
There are already players registered up to a rating of 2350 – please join our team to fight against them for a promotion to league 3!
