As there are now certain relaxations of the Corona restrictions we asked the GZ Bachwiesen if and under what conditions we can again offer chess for adults. If possible, we will play a tournament over the board on April 27th! We will keep you updated!
We kindly ask you to mark an appointment in your in the calendar already now: Our general assembly 2021 will be held on Tuesday June 8th 2021 – depending on the situation either in the GZ or even online.
The SSB has now postponed a possible start of the SMM 2021 until at the earliest after the summer holidays:
Anyway – please do not forget to fill in this short questionnaire by end of April:
And the Swiss Team Battle will continue in league 4 on April 20th 2021 with a time control of 5+3:
In the project “Support your Sport” we are having a great finish and now clearly crossed the level of 700; in case you still have some bons you can assign them until tomorrow April 19th to our club – many thanks!
And I found a course about chess basics (in German language) by GM Stefan Kindermann on the homepage of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. In case you are interested, just have a look:
As discussed in our general assembly we renewed the contract with the Gemeinschaftszentrum Bachwiesen until the end of September. However, as we only can use the venue under the given restrictions, the GZ offered a discount on the rental fee!
I am really happy anyway that we still can offer chess for kids over the board in the GZ – many thanks to Roger for all the efforts!
It is still uncertain if the SMM can be played this year at all. Until now it is not possible to register a team. You can follow the latest news on the homepage of the Swiss chess federation:
Unfortunately, as not enough players registered for the Zurich Championship 2021 it had to be cancelled:
However, the Zurich Championships for kids is still scheduled for April 14th and 21st! Please ask Roger, Kurt or myself for details.
At least there is some chess and we continue to play in the Swiss Team Battle – on April 20th in league 4 with a time control of 5+3:
From the last newsletter we more than doubled the number of bons in the project “Support your Sport”:
Until April 12th you still can collect bons and assign it until April 19th to our club. In the meantime Migros doubled the amount of money to be distributed to all clubs! Many thanks to all of you for supporting us.
Thank you so much for supporting the club in the project “Support Your Sport” initiated by Migros – we already crossed the 100 margin and until April 12th you can still collect “Vereinsbons” which you can assign until April 19th:

Please find here the statement of the SSB about other planned tournaments in 2021 (in German language):
In the past few weeks we had major problems with our homepage. After all we had to ask the provider for a restore and did quite some manual rework.
However, apart from minor things we are finally back online!
We are now registered for «Support Your Sport» initiated by Migros – as soon as our club is unlocked, I will pass further details to you. Thanks to Fabio for the hint!

All the best and stay healthy!
Despite all Corona restrictions we can at least offer kids training up to an age of 15.
After discussing it with the GZ Bachwiesen and following the safety precautions, we started last week with 7 kids! For further information please get in touch with Roger Loup at the venue or online with Kurt Glatzfelder.
Tomorrow February 2nd there will be an internal rapid tournament on lichess starting at 19:30:

If you are rather interested in playing a rapid tournament for Letzi at the Swiss Team Battle, you can join the team the upcoming Saturday February 6th at 16:00 (time control 7+2):
Last but not least: The Swiss Chess Federation decided not to charge the license fee 2021 because of the unclear circumstances: http://www.swisschess.ch/news-112/corona-rabatt-ssb-verzichtet-2021-auf-die-lizenzgebuehr.html
We will keep this in mind when we discuss the Letzi membership fee 2021 at our general assembly!
Hopefully, you had a good start into 2021 and you are healthy!
It is still not possible to meet for chess over the board in our venue GZ Bachwiesen. We might be able to offer kids training under certain restrictions, but this is under clarification at the moment.
Unfortunately, the Swiss Chess Federation had to cancel the first round of the SGM light and it is under discussion whether the remaining can be played or not: http://www.swisschess.ch/sgm.html
Because of this I would like to call your attention to our team on lichess.org!
Roger will continue to organize tournaments in 2021 on this platform as well – please support him on this and let him know which time control and modus you would prefer: Blitz or Rapid, with or without increment, Arena or Swiss style…
The leagues in the Swiss Team Battle are getting stronger and stronger and after competing for quite some time in L2 we suddenly find ourselves there in the 4th!
On January 26th we will continue with a time control of 5+3: https://lichess.org/tournament/1U03mBzC
Please register in time, the more players for Letzi the better!
Dear Chess Friends,
The year is now slowly coming to an end and even though the situation is recently not developing so positively, I hope that you are healthy and can spend the holidays with family and friends!
Because of the restrictions of the GZ Bachwiesen and the Bundesrat/BAG, we cannot meet in our venue until January 22nd. However, until then we have at least some online chess on the agenda, starting with a rapid tournament in arena style on lichess:
Over Christmas and new Year there is again a Swiss Team Battle, this time we start in league 3 (time control 5+0):
The SGM light is supposed to start on January 23rd. However, the decision about this will be taken by the end of December. You already can find the drawings on our homepage:

As usual: Please register in time, the more players for Letzi the better!
The Zurich Chess Federation has announced to cancel the ZMM “light” 2020//21 because of the circumstances around the Corona-Virus.
For the SGM “light” starting in January 2021 we registered one team for the Regionalliga 1. Please enter your availability to the doodle if not yet done.
Unfortunately, we got relegated in the Swiss Team Battle. Tuesday November 3rd we will now start in league 3 with a time control of 5+3: https://lichess.org/tournament/hs2L0fcD
Please register in time, the more players for Letzi the better!
Please continue to follow the safety regulations of the BAG, the SSB and the GZ, e.g.

- please wash your hands before and after the chess evening
- from an age of 12 you have to wear a sanitary face mask
- please keep a distance of 1.5 meter whenever possible
- the room must be aired out on a regular base
- there is a maximum of 15 persons an evening
Firstly, I would like to appeal to you to support our team captains with entering your availability to the doodles for the SGM (start in January 2021) and ZMM (will start already in November!).
We will continue to meet every Tuesday evening in the Cafeteria of the GZ Bachwiesen (not in the Pflegezentrum!). As discussed at our annual meeting, we will try to extend our contract with the GZ at least until October 2021. In case of any match on a Saturday we will try to get a room there or in the Hallenbad Altstetten.
Apropos annual meeting: We had elections and Dimitris Leventeas as inventory manager, Osi Odermatt as Aktuar and Patric Müller as treasurer joined the commitee. Many thanks especially to Roland Enderli and Dimitris Leventeas (actually, he’ll stay …) for your support over the past years!
If you would like to contribute as a manager of the homepage or with sending out the newsletter – please get in touch with me!
And yet again: Please continue to follow the regulations of the BAG and the recommendations of the Swiss Chess Federation – this supports in particular our club in this challenging situation!
