News about Chess at Letzi

As there are now certain relaxations of the Corona restrictions we asked the GZ Bachwiesen if and under what conditions we can again offer chess for adults. If possible, we will play a tournament over the board on April 27th! We will keep you updated!

We kindly ask you to mark an appointment in your in the calendar already now: Our general assembly 2021 will be held on Tuesday June 8th 2021 – depending on the situation either in the GZ or even online.

The SSB has now postponed a possible start of the SMM 2021 until at the earliest after the summer holidays:
http://www.swisschess.ch/news-112/die-smm-2021-startet-erst-nach-der-sommerpause-1-runde-ende-august-anmeldeschluss-am-1-juli.html
Anyway – please do not forget to fill in this short questionnaire by end of April:
https://forms.gle/9qwnDJir1GjDurmv5

And the Swiss Team Battle will continue in league 4 on April 20th 2021 with a time control of 5+3:
https://lichess.org/tournament/RoM3gXBs

In the project “Support your Sport” we are having a great finish and now clearly crossed the level of 700; in case you still have some bons you can assign them until tomorrow April 19th to our club – many thanks!

And I found a course about chess basics (in German language) by GM Stefan Kindermann on the homepage of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. In case you are interested, just have a look:

News

As discussed in our general assembly we renewed the contract with the Gemeinschaftszentrum Bachwiesen until the end of September. However, as we only can use the venue under the given restrictions, the GZ offered a discount on the rental fee!
I am really happy anyway that we still can offer chess for kids over the board in the GZ – many thanks to Roger for all the efforts!

It is still uncertain if the SMM can be played this year at all. Until now it is not possible to register a team. You can follow the latest news on the homepage of the Swiss chess federation:
http://www.swisschess.ch/

Unfortunately, as not enough players registered for the Zurich Championship 2021 it had to be cancelled:
https://www.zuercherschachverband.ch/index.php/zsv-tunriere/zuercher-stadtmeisterschaft
However, the Zurich Championships for kids is still scheduled for April 14th and 21st! Please ask Roger, Kurt or myself for details.

At least there is some chess and we continue to play in the Swiss Team Battle – on April 20th in league 4 with a time control of 5+3:
https://lichess.org/tournament/RoM3gXB

From the last newsletter we more than doubled the number of bons in the project “Support your Sport”:
https://supportyoursport.migros.ch/de/vereine/sc-letzi-zuerich/
Until April 12th you still can collect bons and assign it until April 19th to our club. In the meantime Migros doubled the amount of money to be distributed to all clubs! Many thanks to all of you for supporting us.

News in Chess

Thank you so much for supporting the club in the project “Support Your Sport” initiated by Migros – we already crossed the 100 margin and until April 12th you can still collect “Vereinsbons” which you can assign until April 19th:
https://supportyoursport.migros.ch/de/vereine/sc-letzi-zuerich/

We got a bit stuck in league 4 of the Swiss Team Battle. This Tuesday March 23rd will be the next round starting at 19:30 with a time control of 5+3:
https://lichess.org/tournament/fU8qns9l
Please join our team to fight for a promotion to league 3!

The Swiss Chess Federation discussed the game operation this year. There is still hope to start with the SMM end of June! And if you would like to support us as a team captain, please let me know! Until the end of April we have to register our teams.
Please find here the statement of the SSB about other planned tournaments in 2021 (in German language):

News about chess at Letzi

In the past few weeks we had major problems with our homepage. After all we had to ask the provider for a restore and did quite some manual rework.
However, apart from minor things we are finally back online!

We are now registered for «Support Your Sport» initiated by Migros – as soon as our club is unlocked, I will pass further details to you. Thanks to Fabio for the hint!

In the Swiss Team Battle we still fight in league 4. Next tournament will be on the upcoming Tuesday March 9th with a time control of 5+3: https://lichess.org/tournament/NcOSJalD
There are already players registered up to a rating of 2350 – please join our team to fight against them for a promotion to league 3!

Please note that this year’s Zürcher Stadtmeisterschaft will be played online on lichess.org. Start of the tournament will be Wednesday April 7th and you can find further information on the homepage of the federation:
https://www.zuercherschachverband.ch/index.php/zsv-tunriere/zuercher-stadtmeisterschaft

Also the Zürcher Schülerturnier 2021 will be organized online on lichess.org. It will be played on Wednesday April 14th and 21st; each afternoon between 14:30 and around 17:00. Please ask our youth leader Kurt, gamemaster Roger for further information or get back to me.

Until now it is not clear in which format the SMM 2021 can be played. All planned dates had to be postponed by the Swiss Chess Federation . As soon as it is announced we will get back to you for the planning! Please find here the latest news:

Some statistics about the past season …

  • Roger Loup was the only one who played all 7 rounds, followed by Ulazdimir Kokarau with 6 games.
  • Ulazdimir is ahead in another statistic: he is our top-scorer with 5.5 out of 6! As well as with the best rating step!
He is followed by Julien Cretin with 4/5 and Daniel Muster with 3.5/5.
    Congratulations to all of them!
  • Laurent Schneider had a great result (3/4), too and crossed the 2000! It could have been even better, as he had a must-win-situation in the last round.
  • The best avarage of all opponents had Rainer Schaub with 2067 on board 1, followed by Shardul Paricharak (1987) and Jarek Bukwa (1965).
  • We had 13 members who played for Team 1 whereas 16 started for Team 2; in total 23 players started in the past SMM season.
  • There was only one forfeit in a total of 78 games.
  • The strongest oppenent was Zug 1 for Letzi 1 with an average of 1991, for Letzi 2 it was UBS 1 with 1915 … unfortunately, we lost both matches.
  • And we were not really lucky with the drawings: 8 away-, but only 5 times home-matches.
