News about chess at Letzi

Hopefully, you had a good start into 2021 and you are healthy!

It is still not possible to meet for chess over the board in our venue GZ Bachwiesen. We might be able to offer kids training under certain restrictions, but this is under clarification at the moment.

Unfortunately, the Swiss Chess Federation had to cancel the first round of the SGM light and it is under discussion whether the remaining can be played or not: http://www.swisschess.ch/sgm.html

Because of this I would like to call your attention to our team on lichess.org!
Roger will continue to organize tournaments in 2021 on this platform as well – please support him on this and let him know which time control and modus you would prefer: Blitz or Rapid, with or without increment, Arena or Swiss style…
The leagues in the Swiss Team Battle are getting stronger and stronger and after competing for quite some time in L2 we suddenly find ourselves there in the 4th!
On January 26th we will continue with a time control of 5+3: https://lichess.org/tournament/1U03mBzC
Please register in time, the more players for Letzi the better!

Because of the restrictions of the GZ Bachwiesen and the Bundesrat/BAG, we cannot meet in our venue until January 22nd. However, until then we have at least some online chess on the agenda, starting with a rapid tournament in arena style on lichess:

In case of any match on a Saturday we will try to get a room there or in the Hallenbad Altstetten.

Apropos annual meeting: We had elections and Dimitris Leventeas as inventory manager, Osi Odermatt as Aktuar and Patric Müller as treasurer joined the commitee. Many thanks especially to Roland Enderli and Dimitris Leventeas (actually, he’ll stay …) for your support over the past years!

News about GZ, Swiss Team Battle, SGM and our Annual Meeting

For at least half a year we can meet every Tuesday evening in the Cafeteria of the GZ Bachwiesen (Bachwiesenstrasse 40, Zürich) and finally play chess again over-the-board!

We will start on September 29th with the kids training from 18:30 – 19:15 and continue after a break of 30 minutes at 19:45 with an open rapid tournament.

There is one parking place for us – please ask me to get the ticket for the front window or pick it from the box with the chess material. In case there is more than one driver, I would like to give the ticket “round-robin”. There are more parking areas nearby, like at the Pflegezentrum or the Freilager.

Because of the Covid-19 circumstances, we kindly ask you to register beforehand with me or Roger.
When we play chess, please respect the rules defined by the Federal Office of Public Health such as washing hands and staying home if sick. We will also take attendance every chess evening. For more guidance, please visit https://bag-coronavirus.ch and http://www.swisschess.ch/dossier-covid-19.html.
We will provide some hand sanitizer at the venue.

In the Swiss Team Battle we were able to stay in league 2 with a great 4th place! Congratulations especially to our best players Patric Müller, Clément Richet and Georg Kradolfer!

SGM: Season 2019/20 ended with forfeits

The last round of the SGM season 2019/20 has been finally played on September 5th 2020.

Because of the circumstances around the Corona-Virus and to concentrate on Letzi 1 not being relegated in league 1, we forfeited the match Letzi 2 against Nimzowitsch 5. However, Zug had amongst other things problems with their venue and gave forfeit.

It was a difficult season, not only because of the Corona-restrictions. But with Letzi 2 winning the 3rd league and team 1 staying in the 1st, it was finally successful. Many thanks to all who contributed to this!

The next season will start in January 2021 – we will keep you up-to-date!
